Unhappy Help me to keep my dream alive!

Ok, well today I was being bored and bumming around the house. I decided "hey i'll sit in the seven!" You know what I meen, the usual sit there, shift gears, and imagining like your flying around corners. Well I have never actually done this. Main reason is 1. its on jack stands, and has been sence 99, and 2. the drivers door doesn't open fully becasue of some boxes that are blocking the way.

Well today I said screw it, im squeezing myself in there. After shimmying myself in, I realized that, wow, this car is much smaller then i remember it!! (the last time I was in this car was back when it was still running and it was my sisters car) This was a long time ago and I was a LOT younger and smaller. And I have grown A LOT more sence then...

I soon ralised, I really dont fit in this car I am 6' 5"... The seat was all the way back and leaned it all the way back, My legs barly fit aroudn the steering wheel, I think it would be possible to actually drive the thig in this position but, 1. not for long and 2. My head is almost resting where the roof line curvs downward, I think I could almost break my neck if I were to get hit or if I went over any sort of bump!

Well I have been lurking here or a couple of months, silently reading all of the posts and learning tons about this car and rotary engines in general. I have fallen in love with the car. Even though I have never droven it, or even ridden in it in like 6-7 years! All i want currently in my life is to be able to drive this car once!

I beseech this upon you guys at the awsome RX-7Club 1st gen section, What can I do to make me be able to safely fit and drive this car?

I figured that I could possible do a couple of things:

1. I could get an aftermarket steering wheel that is smaller in diameter then the stock wheel.

2. I could possible lower the drivers seat? I dont know if this is even feesible sence I have actually never seen the seat bracket. WOuld it be possible to cut and then reweld the brackets to be lower?

Are there any after market seets or other seats that I could aquire that are lower?

Info: Its an '84 GSL, no rust, silver with red interior

Wow I didn't realise how long this was heres some quick cliff notes:
- I am 6'5"
- I dont easily fit in the divers seat
- How can i make myself fit better?

If I were you I would get the smaller steering wheel to be able to fit my legs ... secondly i've read before that the GSL and GSL-SE seats are the highest because of the extra functions in there ... so you could get seats out of a G or GS and try that out, or get aftermartket seats with very small cushioning.. or there's always the option of sticking your head out the sunroof and drive like that ... I should mention if you choose the last route a helmet would be wise for head injuries

I'm 6 foot and fit good. I don't want to grow anymore, or else driving will be a bit uncomforatble.

you could always get a 240z. they're made for giants.

Yes, but i already have thsi Fb just sitting in my garage collecting dust and acting as a shelf

Ok, so after doing some searching i think it could be possible!
-I read that i could get GS seats which would make it lower, or i could get TII seats which lso will lower them, and

-I can get and after market wheel. I was looking through grants website and saw a couple wheels that I liked. Also I might get a spacer to move the wheel closer to me so that my knees will fit under/behind it.

-And to top it off I can get a glass sunroof.

This is excelent! thanks you guys for reassuring me that I can still get this amazing piece of jappanese steel working!

Now, would anybody like to doante working 12a to me?
Tthe only thing between me and the open road is $

If you love the 1st gen that much, but just can't find a way to fit into it, get an early 90's miata. similar feel to the 1st gen, but more room. I'm 6'3" and I have sat in a 91 miata, and the feeling from the drivers seat is very similar to a 1st gen. You've got a nice cockpit kinda feeling but you have more headroom in a miata.

You can get an aftermarket steering wheel like I did, which freed up a lot of room for the knees, and then for the seat, you can modify the brackets and modify the floor mounts to move it down. I am going to be doing this, but I am not sure how much I can actually lower the seat by. I've got some 2nd gen GXL seats in my 7 now, so we'll see how it goes. I'll make a thread on it if my mods are successful.
