Help identify some harness conectors!!!

Ok, Im trimming out all the wiring in the front harness that I no longer need for the car. I Have a Haynes manual and the PDF Wiring Diagram (http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/19...g_Diagrams.pdf)

Im having trouble finding a few of these connectors purpose.

My car is an 84GSL. I only need the basic car functions to work (headlights/Heater/signals/etc.) I have a Chevy motor going in it, but dont hold that against me!

If you know what any of the Connectors are, please post up what they go to/the connector number from the Diagram if you know it!

This can help anyone trying to clean out the harness (im tucking mine completely in the frame rails after I chop it)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

These plugs are near the very front of the car.

Clip 1- 2 wires (B UY)

Clip 2- 4 wires (UY BR)
(GO GY)

Clip 3-

---------------------------------------------------------------

These next few are right near the firewall

Clip 4- 2 plug, 1 wire (YU)

Clip 5- Plugs into this little Yellow cap

Clip 6- 2 plug- (UY, UR)

Clip 7- 3wires (BW, UB, GB)

Clip 8- 4 wires- (has a jumper wire plug)

Clip 9- 4 wires- (GW, GU, G, BY)

This is the Choke and Check Relay, which I assume I dont need anymore with the V8, correct? (I know the YU wire goes to the Tachometer)

This is labeled as the Oscillator. I see it connects to some sensors. is it required for the gauges to function, and if so, why is it mounted up front instead of under the dash?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for any help. I will figure these out by myself eventually, but with work and other projects, it would be very helpful if someone could give me a hand!!!

Thanks!

I imagine some of mine will be different, since I have a GSL-SE, but tomorrow I'll check to see what color wires I have going where.

If you slowly go through the wiring diagram you'll find them all. Every schematic has connectors listed under it, and they all have general shape and wire color labeled.

There is a link in the FAQ regarding FSM for our vehicles, kindly provided by a member. As for what each individual connector does? It'd take me a bit to sort through and find them on a diagram, you'd be better off doing it yourself because you can trace the wiring easier than we would through pictures.

yea, I do have that already, and I am now going back through the whole harness: everything.

I was just trying to make it faster!

Unfortunately, wiring is never really "fast" from my experience...

Most of it will be for the emissions gear, rats nest, etc. I removed ALL emissions from my car and ended up with a massive pile of useless wire, it takes up around 2/3 of the engine bay loom. If I were you I wouldn't bother looking it all up, as you wont have a rotor in there - you don't need any of it. Just make sure you keep the critical stuff and discard the rest.

Headlights/motors
main wire to fuse box
temp sensor
starter wire
reverse switch
coolant level sensor
brake fluid sensor
horn
ignition system (dizzy+coils)

All engine bay relays can go, you may have to rewire the coils for simplicity after deleting the ignition relays, and retain some kind of check switch depending on the alternator you're using.

Well, I have sour news. I looked over all of my connectors, and I couldn't find any that match yours. I suspect the wire coloring is different on my model or something like that. A lot of similar connectors, but none of them are exactly the same. I suspect the two-wire (B UY) might be for the windshield washer reservoir, and the second two-wire (UY YR) might be as well, although on mine it's UY U, and the big brown one (4th pic) probably connects to the harness that goes under the car to the tranny and starter? The oscillator is mounted up front by the headlight, don't know why, but that's where it is. Sorry man, wish I could be of more help.

A tip I found sped things up when I was de-looming mine. The engine bay part of the harness is in 2 "catagories" in the FSM wiring diagram, "F" and "E". "F" is the front harness, the one that comes from the drivers side and goes around. The "E" is the engine harness and comes from the passenger side. Print out the shematic parts of the wiring diagrams, on the bottom of the pages is a "legend" of the connectors and thier color codes, in each one at the top it has a letter in "( )" to indicate what part of the harness the connector can be found. Take a highlighter and mark all the boxes that have an "E" with one color and the ones with an "F" with another color. Now you can ignore all the pages without highlighting and all the billion other wires and connctors on the pages. Look at each "connector" on your harness, then compare it to the highlighted ones on the diagram till you find it, label it with some masking tape and move to the next and so on till they are done. Much faster and easier than searching through each and every time. Hope this helps, it made mine ALOT quicker to do.

I'm not positive offhand, but I remember that on that connector. I only had a couple wires I kept. So that may be right.

all that yellow thing is, is a diode. the ocillator is required for the warning buzzers for the low coolant and low oil level.
