help! how to install oil seals??

I spent hours over the weekend to find rear wheel oil seals for my SE. And I've already ruined both.

How do you get these things installed? Is there a tool (as refered to in the FSM) that does this properly, or is it all skill-of-the-operator?

thanks for any information!
John

Just be careful and go slow. Put the hub on a bench or some high flat surface where you can see what's going on. With some seals I've been able to press them in with my hands. Maybe try sticking them in the freezer overnight? Usually, I use a large socket of about the same diameter and lightly tap with a hammer using even pressure around the four faces of the clock so the seal goes in even. If one part is running lower I tap opposite it to even things out again. I also think you could just hammer the seal itself as long as you take it easy, keep it even, and go slow. Good luck.
