Help appreciated-
Hey guys im new on here and have been looking seriously into gettin myself an rx7. Well i actually will be getting a 7 in mid october, about a month. So i just wanted to know about its performance, stock. I now drive a stock 93 mx6 and was wondering how slow/ fast the stock 1st gen rx7 is compared to the 6. Im thinking its a little slower.. but someone enlighten me.

If your 6 has the 2.0, then the 7 will keep up with it pretty decent. If it has the V6 (hopefully it doesnt - the 93 V6 kinda sucks), then the 7 will lose pretty badly as far as a straight line race. I know this, as my 01 protege has the 2.0 and I raced a friend that had headers and mild ignition upgrade. He also had a 12A, so if the one you are looking at has a 13B, you will be about 30 horse ahead of a 12A. 12A has 100 hp, 101 torque and 13B (GSL-SE available in 84-85) has 135 hp, cant remember torque.
Also, the 01 protege is pretty much dead even with a 2nd gen probe/mx-6 with 2.0.

I think i ran a 17.0 when my first gen was stock, my girlfriend had a mid '90's probe GT (same car as a mx6 v6) that would hand me my ***. now i run a 14.6 and she doesnt stand a chance. my car always handled better, which is the real reason i love these cars. if your looking for performance as far as corners you'll love it stock and it only gets better. in a straight line, an exhaust makes these cars come alive

Not the fastest car in the world, but I swear to god it's fun as all get out. I've got an 03 Neon, which while not the best of the neons at least comes with a pretty good suspension system, and I can take corners significantly faster in the rx7. Mind you my 7 is 20 years older than my Neon, and really needs a lot of suspension work to get it in tip-top shape.
I had to completely replace my exhaust, it was full of holes and such, so I put in a full RB exhaust, dual pipes till just before the rear axle, and it sounds friggin sweet. It's like a big angry bumblebee. Nothin like it man, it doesn't sound anything like those ricer civics and whatnot.
Anyway, yeah, they're great. One of the coolest and most unique cars you could own.

Ok ok ok
ok... yea i have the v6 mx6... lol. its almost quick. lol. yea well. Im new to cars in general, but am reading lots and eager and willing to learn, but hey. If i get an 85 rx7, i was on the racing beat site and saw the exhaust kit for 790$... if i buy that and then put it on the rx7... what happens then? Will it be a little quicker? lol.. (sorry total newb)

if you do the 85 7 and use the RB exhaust you will bury the mx6. the 13b rotary will bury one anyways. as stated above though, these cars are best suited for cornering so in a straight line you may find you are still lacking in power but with time and money that can be fixed.
