Exclamation Hello!~!~!

Good Evening to you all.
Hi, my name is josh as u probaly guessed from my screen name. I have just obtained my first car and it happens to be a 1985 Mazda Rx7 GS with a pain in the arss amount of problems to go along with it. Got a nice straight body with some icky sun damage from so-cali. So far I have gotten to know her a little bit by getting down and dirty under the hood. I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributer cap, distributer, fuel filter, and Iam in the process of trying to locate a functioning alternator. I would like to throw this out into the forum in the hopes that someone might have the answer to my problem. The symptons to her sickness include, she idless ruff until warm, then idels around 300 rpms. When I drive her sometimes she looses power the rpms drop from 2-3k depends on how fast Iam goin down to like 200-500 rpms then if I try and give her gas she will die on me. This all started happening about a week ago and now she is to the point where she wont start unless she is jumped. Iam gettin some blue smoke outa the tail pipe when she is hooked up to my moms mustang (via jumper cables) and a lil smoke outa the carborator. If anyone could help with some insight I would realy appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

First off, get the Alternator problem fixed. Next, Rebuild or replace the carburetor. Rough idle till warm=problem with choke After warm engine...adjust idle from 300 RPM to 750 RPM But before anything...inspect your gas pedal cable, check it where it gets connected to the carb.

Sounds like the mixture is way off, and the idle speed may be wrong as well. Check the timing, mixture and idle speed according to the manual (dont have one? Go get one ). And definatly get the alternator fixed. Since youre looking for one, and you need one anyway, it might help to know that getting one from a 2nd gen RX-7 (86-92) is a common upgrade. They have more output amperage, especially the T2 alternators. If you get one, the people here can EASILY tell you how to install it. The bolting on is the same, but you need to change the wiring slightly. Very easy, and from what I hear, worth it.

Yep, carb rebuild is in the near future.....if you want ask sterling about his "sterling caburetor" they are best of carbs for a good price....but I wouldn't start on moding yet. Check ALL vaccum lines for leaks (these things cause all sorts of problems) although it just sounds like sombody did a shitty job on adjusting the carb. Also, learn to search, I'm still somewhat of a newbee to the forum but I do know one thing: If you don't search first and sound like you have no clue on what you're talking about, the common response you will get is "use the search button". Don't get discouraged, these are awsome cars and this is a great forum, for a good month or so I just sat and read post after post after post, then when I knew a good amount about these cars I started contributing. Also, try the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum, that sticky will give you a real good idea about things and probably answer ALOT of questoins, I know it helped me out. Anywho, congrats on your car....are you going to post pictures up anytime soon? Well, back to my main advice: GET TO KNOW THIS FORUM LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND! sit back and enjoy the benifits. Another thing, you might want to get your hands on a haynes manual or factory manual if you got the money read it cover to cover and get down pat the lingo they use, cuz when I first started on this forum I had no clue what people where talking aobut. Well, good luck with the car. it you need help researching anything just PM me (private message) and we could probably both learn somthing new. Later

oh yea, SA, FB, FC, FD (we have FBs)are refering to the generations/models of our rx-7's that confused the hell out of me when I first logged on.

edit: damn i'm slow, i was the third to post when i started typing, lol
