heater core questions

do you have to remove the electric fan to get to the heater core? I've torn so much out already but still having extreme trouble with it.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I was wondering what was wrong with the heater core? Is it leaking? If not and it's blowing cold air, then you have air in the system.

If you have air in the system it'll blow cold air out of the heater, and all you have to do is take the rad cap off and idle the engine and then when you see no more bubbles come out of the colant, then slap the rad cap back on and you should be good to go.

DId you develope your pics yet from the Aurora meet?

I just replaced the heatercore in my 84GSL 4 months ago, and it was hell!!!!!! I had to take the ENTIRE dash and all parts associated with it out, the whole front of the car was completely gutted, right to the fire wall! (all that was left was the steering column and a mess of wire harnesses) Its not a complicated job to do, but it is very time consuming, so leave yourself atleast 3-4 days to get it all done. If you are going to replace the heatercore, replace the valve that controls the coolant flow through it, they corrode badly and tend to boil out the edges and leak.
Good luck, and stock up some brew for the job

anyone have this prob ? .... of course during the summer i have the temp control set all the way to cool for using the a/c. if i turn the **** from cool to hot while the engine is running it sounds like there is a LOT of coolant gushing around in the heater core. i don't have any leaks, and the heater and A/C both work fine. That noise just seems strange to me. i ran the car with the rad cap off (and with the front end pointing up a slight hill) and there appears to be no air trapped in there. but it does it every time. i would investigate further but i was told a few years ago what a PITA it was to get to the core. everything works ok, but if anyone knows why the noise is happening i'd really like to stop it!!!
