Heater Box

OK, I'm tired of heat blowing on my feet all the time. It appears that the gaskets around the heater blend doors are shot. Has anyone tried fixing this one yet? Does anyone know what it takes to remove and replace the heater box? It looks like it'll be a real bitch of a job.

By design, in the 1st gens there is always a small amount of heat coming out there, even when the window defroster selection is on or is yours coming on full all the time no matter which selection?

Forgot to mention I have an 82. I get just enough heat to make my feet sweat with the vent on. When I have the AC on, adjusting the temp slider causes much more heat at my feet, almost no difference in vent temperature. I think you're right about a small amount of heat with the defroster on, but mine is definitely not right, there's no way Mazda would have been able to sell these working this way.

Man, I wish I could help you out. I know where you're comming from about having some warm air blowing around down there, but there shouldn't be too much.

If the old adage that misery loves company holds, this may help a bit (albiet in an unhelpful way lol) -- I will soon have a related experience as I need to change the heater core in my 79 ...
