Unhappy Heater or airconditioner does not work.

Well, its been like this for a long time.

The freeon (spell), leaked out for airconditioning.

but thats not my problem.

My heater does not work either

What would be the cause of the heater not working.

I hope to get some good anwsers, so I can trouble shoot deeper.

are you referring to the blower motor or the radiator fan? does the blower motor run?

ever used stop leak in your coolant system? it tends to plug up the heater core, which causes the water to not circulate through it and your blower will just move air inside the cabin, it will not blow air through the hot water in the coolant system, where your heat comes from. Rust in the system will cause this some times too.

being low on coolant will do the same thing, it won't reach the heater core. but more than likely your heater core is probably clogged with gunk.

It is behind the center part of your dash in a big box. The heater core is basically a radiator. The coolant from the engine goes through heater hose through the firewall. It connects to a valve that is attached to the heater core. The valve opens or closes letting the hot coolant flow through the heater core. After going through the heater core, the coolant returns to the engine. If the valve is bad/stuck or if the core is clogged, the coolant won't go through so you won't get heat. To replace the heater core, you need to pull out the dash.

First, we should check other things. Has the heater ever worked for you? Someone could have disconnected it. Another thing is to make sure when you move the dial/lever to hot, the linkage behind the dash is connected and opening the valve. It may not be connected. Just to be sure, when to turned on the heat, you did move the dial/lever to all the way hot with the engine running and warmed up. The heater will not work without the engine warm.

If all this is fine, then you probably need a new heater core. They aren't too expensive, but are a bit of work to replace.

Good luck.

Nicholas,
The first thing I would check is if the hoses have not been bypassed to the heater core. On my car the heater core hoses are obvious. One goes to the bottom radiator hose, and the other to the side of the block by the oil pressure sensor.
One quick test to see if it's flowing is by warming up the car and quickly touching the hoses that go into the firewall to see if they are hot. Just be careful because they get hot.

I was in my car warming the engine up. The two hoses got hot, as I was hoping.

It blows warm air, but not Hot.

The tempeture stays about here when in motion.

If the ascii is a rendering of your temp gauge, it's running a bit high.

Me and my brother put the long lost coolant in there.

It seemed that the over flow tank (is what its called)

Was empty.

problem solved on that part : )

back to subject.

Well, my heater works...

I am thinking during the winter time, that it always stayed cool.

Well, we are thinking its the thermostat. because it got HOT, when it was up there.

now I just need to fix airconditioning.

well, we are figuring when we tried to convert the system to r134a, the dryer got gunked up.

so we are going to bring it somewhere and get it charged, professionaly.

pull the vacuum and stuff.

Ive already took the compressor and disconnected it (discharged)
