Headliner removal in an SA without sunroof
Has anyone ever taken the headliner out of an SA without a sunroof? I've tried searching, and the only thing that comes up is headliner removals for 81-85 cars with sunroofs.
I'm in the process of redoing all of my interior and changing it to black, and the headliner is the last piece that needs to be redone. My headliner is made of a leather/vinyl kind of material which is held up with four metal rods going through the back of the headliner. The rods run from the front of the roof to the back, and go into the frame next to the windshields. I can't figure out how to get these rods out.
Hopefully someone here has done this before. It kind of sucks, I'm stuck on the last part that needs to come out.

IIRC when I gutted the shell for my race car the rods are just bowed up and sprung onto the holes. Maybe push up on them in the center and pull out one end then the other.
Get someone else to chime in before you do it. I ripped all that crap out about three years ago and really wasn't paying much attention to anything except if my beer was empty.

Thanks tom, you were right except that the rods have to be bent to the side, and then the front end can be removed, then the rear. The first time I looked at it, it looked like the rods went in a lot further into the holes. Plus I was getting frustrated, because everything was going really well up until then.
After reading your reply, I looked at it again and tried what you said. the whole headliner came out in about 3 minutes.
