Headlights go up...

But they won't come down. I know why they won't go down though, it's 'cause every time I flip the switch to turn them on, it burns out the fuse under the dash. I don't know why the fuse is burning out though, and it's kinda annoying seeing as how the same fuse that protects the headlights' up and down movement protects the dash board illumination (I end up driving with headlights but no dash lights, so I have to guess how fast I'm going, and how high the revvs are...

Any ideas?

Jeff

I posted this on another thread, but it seems you have the same problem.

Replace the Fuse, then make the headlights go up and down by themsels with the headlight motor switch only(not the headlamps "on" switch)

If they go up and down fine without blowing, then you've narrowed it down to the lamp/illumination area.

Then, Set the Dimmer to the lowest setting possible, see if the fuse blows, or takes longer to blow. (you may have to gradually increase the brightness)

If it did not blow right away, or If it blows while increasing brightness, then you know it is likely grounding itself out somewhere.

I know on the 84/85's (don't recall on the 79-83's) there are two wires under the shifter area with two plugs that APPEAR to belong together as they mate perfectly. They are not supposed to go together, in fact they are there to illuminate the Automatic transmission RX-7's.

Check there and make sure they aren't connected to each other and see if that works.

If it isn't, then it's time to get the circuit tester and ohm meter's out and look for that gremlin.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

K, sounds good. As of now, I'm touching the two terminals where the fuse is supposed to go with a wrench to make them go down... hehe, I know, bad. Let me learn the hard way when I blow the dimmer right out of my car. But it is kinda a pain to drive around without dash lights... oh well, I'lll try to eliminate problems...

Obviously you have a short circuit somewhere. Did this problem start all of a sudden or have you done any work in or around the dash area recently?

Paul (Vohaul) is the guy that owned the car before me, and he was having the problem every once in a while, now I'm having it almost every time I put the lights up... I'm assuming ground problem somewhere, so I'll have to hunt it down with an ohmmeter and an ammeter...
