headlight question - Not the typical question tho!!!
headlight question - Not the typical question tho!!!
ok. so heres the deal, lookd thru the threads i think i'm the first to post on it. for a while i was having intermitten problems with the parking lights, fiddled with the fuse box and got them to work. then the next day out of no where headlights do nothing at all. checkd the fusable links and all harnesses, cleaned the connections on the combo switch... still nothing, only thing that i can do is make the headlights go up manually by jumping power to the up wire on the motor with the manual headlight switch on.. otherwise they just continually go up and down... so none the less cant drive the car right now with no headlights. any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
very weird indeed. Can't offer a direct fix, but do you have a factory wiring diagram?? That would be a good start to tracing the problem. Your description is a bit vague. It sounds like the headlights go up-and-down continually, ie they don't stop in either the UP or DOWN position, but just keep opening/closing, yes? Do the headlights themselves turn ON? Your description doen't clarify if the MOTORS aren't working or the HEADLAMPS aren't working. Or Both? Model year might help too.

YOU CAN..disconnect the battery and pull the retractor fuse..and crank the lights up ..manually..the fuse is on the fuse block in the engine bay ..RET fuse..and the motors have a small **** on the bottom of the motors under a rubber cap..when you get them up ..connect your battery up ..when you want them down, disonnect the battery again ,crank them down and reconnect battery..you can't use the motor cranks with power ON,,so do this or leave the lights up until you get the thing fixed..good luck

additional info ..you will have to leave the retractor fuse out..or else it goes back to the same problem...there is also a retractor motor relay at the front upper rad mount ,,check the wires and the relay..(maybe give the relay a tap..see if it jars anything inside.do this with battery disconnected.)
OOOH I got this. One of the 4 wires that plugs into your headlight motor has power when the headlight is in the up position. Kind of like a sensor, but not one. If the wire has crapped out (being so old it isnt a stretch) it will continuously go up and down. A local guy had this problem also. I think we ended up using a different motor. Could be something in the motor but check to see if any of those 4 wires do not have power at any time.
