Headers, headers, headers...
Ok guys listen up: I wanna buy RB headers but those guys have been slow lately on answering my questions, so I though you guys could help.
I was wondering what I should put on my car. I Got an 84 GSL with the stockport 12A. The way it's set up is that I got this HUGE gap in between my manifold and the rest of the pipes. The reason is because I took out my caths and replaced them with temporary pipes that I got for 43$ at canadian tire ( woohoo :P). Problem is, this seals up REALLY badly lol. What I want to do is get the RB headers for now, redo my "home-made" exhaust so that's it perfectly cooinsides with the new headers ( another 40$ at CT :P )
What I wanna know is this: What headers in this situation would give me the biggest hp advantage, and all the pros/cons. I'll eventually get the whole RB exhaust. I know lots of you guys actually have RB headers on your cars. Thw ones Im talking about are the streetable headers vs race headers.
The points I'm comparing are : Money, sound and performance.
Thanks alot !

yes, I have the CT custom exhaust too, the problem with those pipes are the gauge of metal used are so thin that it gives the car a really dirty tinny sound. Drives me crazy. I'm gonna pick up the RB street header, and just get some thick wall pipping from a real exhaust shop. and toss a good free flowing muffler you'll have all the performance you'll want.and get a pre silencer if its too loud.
That's the exact setup I was thinking about ! lol
Great minds think alike I guess
U have an idea of which headers I should get though ? Or WE should get ?
I get that CRAPPY THIN ANNOYING sound that drives me threw the wall !! ARGRG ! loll
With all windows closed I got a hard time talking on the phone ! lol

yea man i feel your pain, on the highway besides meadians is the worst, I just used the little u clamps to put it togeather. One of these days i'm going to stop being so cheap....I hope. I am going to get the RB streetport header, and use a Bullet type muffler, or maybe a cherry bomb turbo muffler(from CT) as my prescilencer, I'll just put either one of these where the old cats used to be. also get a nice performance muffler like the ultra flow, or a dynomax . It should sound much better, I'm estimating everthing at about 550 or so, with great performance improvement.
LoL ! ... The funiest thing is that the car actually doesn't make that big of a deal on idle... The when u get to a red light, and the guy next to ya revs his up a bit, then u do ... Holly crap does it ever have a shitty sound ! loll And talk about power loss ! :S
I guess it's because there isn't enough back flow ...
NE ways, please respond people ! .. I need answers !

i suggest the streetable (what i have) unless you wanna run duals. The streetable goes from 2 pipes to 1, and the race header just goes 2 all the way back. its just a header, not a collector. unless you wanna run duals, (which i feel is completely impractical on a rotary) buy the streetable.
yes, same here; i have the racing beat streetable header, presilencer, straight 2.25" piping, tsudo muffler. SOUNDS FUGGING AWESOME! thick, amazing tone, not too loud. I LOVE IT!
i have seen a header for one of those chevy v8 blocks....this header has 4 pipes that remain 4 pipes and then they add on another piece of piping that combines the 4 pipes into 1....can't u do that with the racing header from RB?
RB actually have tha piece that can compine all in one. I guess if I eventually wanna have dual, all I gotta do is cut off the "fling" at the end and start the dual from there. I also heard that building a dual on an FB is REALLY complicated cuz you gotta figure out where to put the pipes lol
Please continue feedback people this is REALLY helping you have no idea ! THANKS !

Nevertheless, if one REALLY REALLY wanted to, anything is possible, but I'm not really looking to give myself that much pain and suffering lol. I just want mine to have a really crisp, clean and deep sound to it. I now sound like a stupid Honda with a cheap muffler. I keep laughing with my friends about it " To think guys, he actaully PAID to sound like this, and I'm paying so that I can get that sound out ! "
NE ways keep posting guys !

That's probably what I'll do. How thick metal should I be using ? Cuz really, I only got one pipe to buy cuz the eaders go far back enough, then I might get a presilencer ..

Hey Eric,
I spent some more time on the RB website and I think you should just get the streetable one. Unless you're planning to rebuild your engine *again* and port it, it's not worth it. Hell, even if you *do* rebuild and port it, it's not necessarily worth it.
There are people running street ports on stock exhaust manifold for chissake! So just get the streetable header, go to an exhaust shop and get some thick pipe, hook it up and enjoy
Add the presilencer later, considering how it sounds now, just the header and some THICK ghetto-pipe and it'll sound fine.
Need a hand? call me!

if a dual exhaust was done....would it be better? cuz i know having the single exhaust and having the header collect and stuff helps the exhaust from one chamber suck out the exhaust from the next....a dual system could be accomplished if u got rid of ur fuel tank and used a fuel cell ryte?

How is it impractical? My 85 has duals that collect just before the muffler, and I wouldn't say I've had any exhaust problems at all. Engine is completely unported (but will receive a streetport soon).
