Well its not like it won't start or anything like that it just takes a while and like today i had to try 2 times before it would start so i could leave work. Could the battery or alt be going bad or are these cars just always hard to start up? I dunno i am used to turned the key and the car starting right up now having the key turned and waiting then trying again and it starting . Any ideas before a potential problem might arrise that i hope won't happen. I just don't want to end up stranded one of these days due to negligence.

 

Batt could be low, or compression could be low.

Also check your spark. Maybe time for a new rotor and cap.

 

Yeah I am gonna do a tuneup tomorrow, just haven't had time at all this week so hopefully that will fix it but if not I will have to check the battery and what do you mean by compression being low? please explain.

 

Low compression meaning bad endine innerds like bad/worn apex seals. These engine need to build up a certain amount of compression otherwise hard start.

 

So is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is this something that will cost me a lot of money? I mean if compression is the culprit of this.

 

Well if thats the prob. its gonna cost. But first things first. How many miles are on the car/engine?

 

looks like you might be new to rotaries (or all types of engines)... check out the FAQ on this site and go to www.howstuffworks.com they have a wonderful demonstration of how the rotary works, and I am pretty sure they talk about the compression being necessary in order to start the engine, or at least showing how compression is built in the engine.

but yeah, do a regular tuneup, check battery/alt, etc. A fusible link might be on the frits (probably not, they usually are binary in application, either they work or they don't) but it's a possibility. give us a few more symptoms and we can probably help better... like is the starter turning, is it turning slow, is it not turning, do you ever lose all power when the key is in the "start" position, etc etc etc...

I can give you a better diagnostic of the symptoms when I drive it later today. I will listen and post on here so hopefully you guys can help me out.

 

no one has mentioned yet, did you start the car not let it warm up and turn it off? It may just be flooded. If thats not it, make sure your carb is getting fuel, check your timing, and if all thats good get a compression test and pray to god you dont need a rebuild.

 

After it's warmed up I don't have a problem at all. It just happened this morning before I went to work and was kind've in a hurry to not be late. Tonight when I drove it she had no problem at all so i dont know?

 

Id drive it over to your local mazda dealership just to get them to compression test it just to make sure...

 

I probably don't have enough money to pay them what they would want to get it tested.

I Personally have the same problem, hard starts, however, I have good compression.

I got my compression checked, it cost me $300 and told me I had good compression after all, my point is only get the compression checked as a last resort, unless of course you want to know.

I would try the idle mixture screw if the problem persists.

But then again, my car hasn't been fixed yet.
