Having problems already
I picked up my first RX7 and I am already having problems. The guy said it idealed high and was told it was probably a vacuum leak. I removed the "rats nest" and all the stuff that goes along with that removal and it is still actiong up. It will run at 4 grand then slowly I can bring it down and hold it around 3200 but anylow and it shuts down. It will start right back up but dies again. Any ideas on anything else I should try? Thanks

Ummm check first that your ACV blockoff plate is suffient and holding up, it needs to be a pretty thick chuck of metal. Then I would say it almost sounds like it could possibly be a fuel problem if its only in the high rpms like that, check what kinda pressure your fuel pump is putting out. Also double check the timing settings to make sure there bang on.
When removing the rats nest did you ensure you got all the vacuum lines hooked back up or blocked? But it sounds like your problem is more then a vacuum leak. Vacuum leaks are usually when the engine idles maybe 3-400 rpms too high or stumbles, your sounds like it just plain doesnt want to work properly.

Wheel Revolutionist!
To find your leak, spray carbueator cleaner or hot shot (starting fluid) around possible vacuum leaks when you hear the engine rev higher you have found your leak because the vacuum will suck in the cleaner or starter fluid and causes a richer mixture of gas and air thus causing the engines rpms to increase! Good luck i had the same problem with the vacuum leaks.

If you can't find a vacuum leak, look through your float windows to see if your floats are working right, the fuel should be in the middle of the window. My car did the same thing and the floats were adjusted way out of wack.
