Haunted Headlights

When my 1979 is in the garage I can activate the manual headlamp switch and both headlamps pop up and stay up. Same thing with the headlight stalk. When driving, the left headlamp will pump up and down and never lock in position. Does this sound like an electrical or mechanical issue? The left headlight dips slightly before locking into place. Thanks BLH

The problem is I can't drive at night until the problem is identified and corrected. Its the only thing wrong and the car is 24 yesrs old. Amazing. Not like that MG I used to own.

buy a haynes manuel. it shows you how to manully "twist" the headlights up. i had to do that once. it turned out that the connecting bar fell off, and needed to be reattatched though

the headlight demons are mad at you

have you checked the wiring? its possible that the wiring for the left headlight is loose and everytime it gets disconnected and reconnected it goes up and down

Turned out to be a short in the motor. Bought new motor from dealer, almost $300.00 for parts alone.
