Hate my SE seats.

I was a salvage yard today and found both TII and GXL cloth seats. Has anybody put these in an FB? Do they bolt in or do you swap frame rails?

I like the feel of the TII seats and can get them for about $250-300.

Opinions anybody?

As I understand all second gen seats are a direct bolt in on first gens.

Well, I have never done it, so until I do I am not going to say for absolute. But, I have seen it posted many times that they are a direct bolt in. But, not the third gens.

I have cloth gxl seats in my SE and love them. All of the passenger bolts line up and 3 out of the 4 drivers bolts line up. So it works fine. They are so much more comfortable than the old leathers and if your kind of tall you can actually see the top of the speedometer now because they sit lower. $250 sounds like way to much though, I only paid $40 for both of mine and they are in good condition.

My driver's seat did the same thing. I just put in a pair of cloth '83 seats... they look nicer, feel much nicer, and are more adjustable. (More side bolstering, etc)

mcgarret, did you go to ralphs auto on scott rd?

If so, let me tell you this; do not listen to a WORD that guy says, he's just some old fart that thinks he knows more about our cars than WE do..

Once I was there asking about GSL-SE suspension, saying I was going to put it in my 1st gen, and the guy starts laughing at me, so i'm like 'what?' and he replied 'GSL-SE's aren't first gen, they are 2nd gens with 1st-gen styled bodies'
And it was no use arguing with him, he tried to tell me generation was based on the engine (12A vs. 13B) etc etc.

This forum has awsome 1st gen knowledge base, so if people here say it can be done, it can be done

It can be done, no problem. If you swap rails (no big deal) they'll fit perfect. Other way, as stated above, 3 out of 4 line up. You can make the other one match.
I used to have 2nd gen seats in my car, before I went to 3rd gen seats. That's a bit more tricky though. But: 2nd gen seats into first gen = no problem! And much more comfortable!
I must add that the 84-85 seats overhere were also very nice from feel, but yours were different, so I'm not sure...

Passion is right... you might have to dremel out the inner front rail a little, but they will go right in. Or you can swap out the rails. Though $250-350... damn i got my t2 seats for 50 bucks. Then again, i know the guys at the junkyard.

We get royally screwed here in BC. The gov't insurance corp. sells these wrecks for huge coin. Hence recyclers pass the screw job on to us.

Don't like it, tough titty on us!

dude, I can get parts at all my local auto wrecker's for much less than that.... I wouldn't pay $250 canadian for a pair of used car seats, no matter what condition they were in. I bet I could pick them up for $100.

Not in lower mainland. Import car owners get hosed. I had a recycler try to tell me a used radio from an Integra was worth $400.

the lower mainland's where I find all my engines and stuff for free. I got a 1.6L 4-banger for my Honda for $250, 3-month warranty, doesn't smoke, good compression... I'd call around, sounds like your wreckers are selling you a line...

ICBC sells the wrecked cars to the wrecker's for a set price, usually really low, and the wrecker's sells the parts for enough to make back what they paid for it plus a profit. My neighbour picked up two written off vehicles from ICBC; a '98 Ford windstarwith front end damage for $1500, and a '99 Ford Escort with interior fire damage for $1000. Doesn't take selling many parts to make that back. He repairs them though, and then sells them.
