It's been done, - go to torquecentral.com - find others like your car.
There are a few here and there lurking around here as well.

The RX-7 club is also known as "The Rotary Engine Club" and many purists
don't like "other" engines inside the RX-7.

Good luck. Prepare to be booed and hissed at.

Yeah, you'll quickly find that a 3 rotor or a miata IRS swap is considered "cool" around here, but mention the dreaded piston motor and all you'll get is "You're ruining the spirit of the car!!!" sob sob....

PM me if you have any questions, and yes, torquecentral is a great place. They helped me with all my stuff last year.

Yea, I did one the other day...left him behind about 8 car lengths in just half a football field's distance with my CBird....when it came to the corner, I had plenty of time to slow down and make it while his rex plowed through it because of the new deer he had strapped to his hood as a result of putting a heavier engine up front where you don't want extra weight in a rear drive car......Yea, I did the rex real good....

Ok, I'll give you some advise. Use the ford 302 from an 80's mustang. Its only about 75 lbs heavier than a 13B engine with gobs more torque. Mabey not more power, but the amount of torque will just blow you away in a 7. Don't go with a chevy engine. As much as I like big block chevy's, their small blocks suck. Ford small block engines are much better.

The whole V8 thing has been done to death.

If people want to mess around with their cars, it's their own business. A V8 isn't something I would do, or advocate, but that's just me.

There is lots of info at torquecentral and the guys on this board who have done the swap are very helpful.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

How little you know. I watched my neighbor change out two intakes in two days in his mustang. I wouldnt use a ford engine no matter how much they wanted to sponsor me for. I would take mopar over ford. They are not fuel efficent, an I6 ford engine uses as much fuel as my 383.

Im thinking about doing a 383 into my FB. Then I can claim i can run with nascar. The only thing holding me back is aerodynamics and fear of taking a 22 year old car that fast.
