Hard starting..weak coil?

Guys, I need some help troubleshooting my SE. This problem has gradually gotten worse lately.
When starting (worse cold, but still does it hot) it is very difficult. There is a definite 'miss', which goes away a few seconds after it catches, runs and idles perfectly after warm up.
I have installed a flood switch, tied to the front coil to cut power. I have to use this every time to get it started, flooring the gas as I crank, flipping the switch on & off. That's the only way it will start. I have brand new plugs, cap, & rotor. Once started, no problems whatsoever, except the white smoke due to the fact I flooded it a bit flooring the gas. I haven't replace the wires yet, although they are fairly new NGK's.
Anything else come to mind I should check?

White smoke would be water vapor, But most likely it's blue (oil). Black is gas. I would suggest checking your compression then giving it an atf treatment.

I forgot to mention that the motor was just rebuilt..got about 1500 miles on it. It doesn't smoke (or wasn't) until the hard starting began. The smoke is whiteish and smells gassy, so I don't think it's a water seal problem, least I hope not.
Anyone else have ideas?

Well, I decided to replace the leading coil with a new one from Advance Auto, starts like new now.
Guess that was it!
