To the guy with the 300rpm starter

Where did you get it from? I remember a guy saying he got a 300rpm starter, and that would make my starting a lot easier, plus the fact that I have had to deflood/crank my engine so much I am afraid one day it will die.

I'm pretty sure all RX7s, or all cars for that matter, have a ~300rpm starter.

i think i saw a post with someone saying they got the car to crank 300rpm's by replacing all the cables and cleaning all electrical connections.

300 RPM Starter? Where did you see that?

As for who makes it or how he got it, I would have to say that he probably dicked around with the internals to give it a little oomph; like rebuilding alternators with stronger stators and rotors to get more amperage out of them.

I thought ours were like 150-200RPM?

No, the 13b's from the 2nd gens spin as fast/faster than ours, and they hit about 225 max.

If you can't find one , try running a fatter cable.
I used welder leads (1 gauge, I think) in my F-150, and it spins pretty fast.

I don't need to get mine to spin faster, I just may need to get a new starter soon, and wouldn't mind having a high speed.

It just makes the car sound like a Model T Ford when it starts. I'd like to get something that is a little quieter, faster, and updated if possible. And heck, you can get a used 2nd gen starter for $20-30 so why not?

From what I am told, a 13b starter will bolt up to a 12a starter hole.

Did some researching. Looks like any non-turbo starter will work. However, it seems like the FC starters don't have threads in them. So you would probably need a longer bolt and a nut to make it work? Not so sure that I want to try it anymore after reading this....

My car cranks at 300rpm, it might have been my thread that you were reading.

The two times I've used an official Mazda Rotary Compression Tester I cranked at 300rpm.

I just have a stock replacement starter, Bosch one from NAPA/Canadian Tire/Advance Autoparts / wherever.

The thing that makes the difference are your battery cables. Original ones are aluminum and they tend to get pretty corroded inside over the years. I replaced mine with copper wire, and went slightly larger on the size. Cost me about twenty bucks in materials and an afternoon's worth of work, and it was well worth it.

Now the starter gets all the juice it needs, and the car cranks nice and fast. It definitely makes a difference in starting and not flooding. I've done the same on two of my friends cars (replaced the battery cables, leaving whichever starter they had on there) and found a crazy improvement in cranking speed from that.

Good condition OEM or equiv (bosch) 12a starter + new battery cables = 300rpm start.
