gslse spewing water

today i was trying to get my timing set, and on a test run, the engine/whole car started shaking horribly. as soon as it started doing this, i let off the gas and slowed down to a stop. i popped the hood, and there was coolant spewing out the front of the motor, onto the belts and lower radiator hose. what would cause this, and what do i have to replace?

the hoses were ok, everything looks alright just the water spewing out the side. i am going to my shop tomorrow and taking the water pump off of my extra motors (85 se, and 86 na) and see what i can make happen.

actually, u can fill it back up with water and watch to see where the water starts coming out at before u start taking things apart and guessing where it's coming from. the shaking u experienced is from the ignition wires and dist getting wet. also a rad repair shop can do a pressure test and find wherer it's coming from.

the water was spewing out the side of the water pump, right where its bolted on. the water was coming out the right side, so i dont know how it got on the wires and dist, but ill see what i can find before i start ripping it all apart.

Was the water pump housing recently replaced? If so, the 2 passenger side studs require a shim washer between the block and housing to make up for the gasket thickness on the other studs and bolts. If you don't have them, or have lost them, they are 0.020" thick. If you used gasket maker/rtv and no gasket, remove the washers.
