are they aiming down too much? your headlights might not be opening up all the way

You should be able to use the adjustment screws to adjust the headlights themselves, if that is not working then you either have your linkage binding somewhere and causing it to sit higher.

At least this i my guess.

generally all you need to do is adjust the lights using the two adjustment screws. park the car with the lights on in front of a solid colored building or garage door/wall. your lights will project on the building and you will be able to see where each sits and how each needs adjusted so that the lights are even with one another.

Adjusting motor things? Are you talking about the ***** on the actual motors themselves? Because those aren't for adjusting... They are for manually raising and lowering the headlights.

The way you adjust your headlights is by two screws located next to the actual headlight.

When you are looking from the front of your car you should see two holes in the plastic housing around your headlight, that is what you use to adjust the headlight itself.

if one is opening up higher, it may be the linkage. take a photo, and it will be easier to see.

A picture woul be very helpful to see what you are talking about, but I think I understand what you are saying...

If it is the actual assembly that looks out of alignment, it can be a few things.

1.) the linkage is binding somewhere

2.) something is bent

3.) there is an adjustment for the actual headlight assembly

Edit:

This link is from the 1985 FSM regarding the Body of the vehicle, at page 15 it describes the adjustments and functions of the headlight assembly.

if the drop in the headlight bucket is slight, the problem may be bad and or missing bushings on the linkage.

Kinda looks like the left hand light is too high or your fender and header panel are bent down in the front. The right hand light looks about like mine. From the pictures your linkage bushings don't look too bad. I wonder if some of the supports are bent behind the body panels on the left front.

my car also has some damage on the drivers side, but the lights are ok.
Could you push it down? don't push too hard.
