Gsl-se won't run when warm

Car is an 85 Gsl-se. The car has been sitting for a few years and I'm attempting to get it running for a friend of mine. Car starts and runs and idles fine until it gets up to temp, then it will cut out if you give it any gas. I've already replaced plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, and have adjusted the tps. Any other ideas why it would be doing this?? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. The Se can be a pesky critter at times. Atleast you have started with the basics.

You need to see if you are getting fire to the trailing side of the plugs when it does this.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I checked for spark at both leading and trailing plugs and they were firing.

Sounds like it may be a fuel supply problem. Have you drained, flushed and cleaned the fuel tank, along with blowing out the fuel lines?

When you state"Cuts out", are you saying that it dies or just won't take throttle?

does sound like fuel. heat can be mischevious to electronics. The AFM comes to mind also.

stick your hand under the air filter, there is a "flapper" under there. verify that it slides back and forth with ease and ends with a clunk. it should NOT stick

It takes throttle fine when it's cold. When it gets warm, if you give it any gas it will start to die and then will barely idle for a few seconds. I already drained the fuel tank and put new gas in it, then I ran the fuel pump with the hose by the intake off and it seemed to be getting plenty of fuel. The car was very hard to start the first time and it blew out a ton of white smoke, so I think it must have been flooded when I first started it up, so it must be getting plenty of gas. I also checked the door in the AFM and it checked out OK.

How did you get the fuel pump to come on?
If it blew out lots of smoke(white), the injectors are probably leaking.

Last week my 83GS 12A would start, as usual, in a half rev when cold, but started reluctantly when hot. I finally found that the plugs were too loose: apparently that allowed compression pressure to escape after the hot block expanded. No problem since I torqued the plugs down firmly.

I had similar problems with my SE It turned out to be my fuel pump car even ran fine when cold and sometimes when at temp. I had it easy I had a donor car in the drive so I could swap known good parts. You said first time you started the car it blew smoke. Started after what the couple years of sitting. If it took you a while to start it probably was flooded thats all. I would check your pump.

I had the same problem with my 85 GSL SE. I did all of the above and no luck. I finally found out that the screen on th einlet side of the Fuel pump was 3/4 full of junk. Check it and it may solve the problem
