gsl se wont return to idle

Ok, I've searched and tried a few different things, trying to fix it.....but ok.
I have a 84 se completely stock, I've been tinkering with.
It will idle a 750 when you start the car but as soon as you touch the gas just a touch it jumps to around 1400 and won't come back down. The only way I can get it to come back to 750 is to close the throttle body with my hand. And yes I've already cleaned it butterflies with carb cleaner to make sure there not sticking, and checked for vac leaks, made sure the throttle cable wasn't too tight. I'm lost and I figured I would ask for help before I just said screw it and put a rb holley set up on it. Thanks for any and all help

Things to check:

throttle cable slack
cruise control cable slack
gas pedal getting caught on a floor mat
try spraying some wd40 on the throttle body linkages

I've checked all of those, except in stead of using wd40 I used pb blaster on the throttle linkage. Is there anything electronic that could be bad and cause it?
Another thing that may be related is when you first start the car, press the gas pedal to the floor turn key, it starts right up, jumps to 2000 rpm and falls stright to 750 and runs there. But if you touch the pedal or linkage outside again it goes to around 1400 and stays there.
Its like the cold start doesn't want to work to start with then works but gets hung up?

Seems if closing the throttle by hand does the trick every time, it's hanging up every time for the same reason. Weak spring, something bent?
Can you take it apart and clean well with solvent and a toothbrush or something?
I have no experience with SE, just a thought.

Yeah I cleaned it with carb cleaner, but it really wasn't that dirty. The car was wreaked about a year ago before I got it and suspossedly this is what caused the wreck, so I'm told was the accelerator hung up.

I think this is a common problem with SE's. 99% of the time mine idle's fine but every once in awhile I'll pull up to a stoplight and it will stick at 1500 - 2000. Next Stop light it's fine again. I've cleaned everything you did to no avail.
