Gsl-se starter work on an 83?

Hey guys... my 5-speed swap is right over the horizion... im wondering if i can use the starte outta my gsl-se rather than buying a new one..

my car is an 81 ,3 speed auto with an 83 engine... soon to have and 83 tranny and flywheel... i will also be using the gls-se clutch pressure plate and ****..

Should work, I haven't found any differences in the 1st gen manual tranny starters. But I do know that the ones for the autos r different.

I don't think so, (but I could be wrong). The flywheels are different sizes.

I got a 85 12A starter on an 88 vert. The only difference was one of the bolt holes on the starter was threaded on the 85 starter. The 88 starter wasnt threaded at all, so a drill bit about 3 seconds later and presto it worked. Id say yeah ..

My take:

try it... Unless you're *seriously* scared it could damage something, I don't think one crank will kill it.. besides, if it doesn't work, when you start to crank you'll hear some kinda noise... then you'll stop.. 1.5seconds of crank couldn't be that bad could it?
