Gsl-se Runs Like CRAP!

Ok here is the issue. I have upgraded to an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, since then I cant get the damn car to idle. I set the fuel pressure to 30 psi, it spits and sputters then dies. If I rev it up it sounds great but backfires a lot on deceleration, and then dies. I have checked for vacuum leaks, and aren't any to be found. I have slightly advanced the timing, and it ran worse so I put it back. If anyone that has used an adjustable regulator have any insight on this that would be great? Also, in my attempts on troubleshooting, I have broken one of the wires on the manifold air temp sensor (which is soldered together for the time being), does anyone know if I can use a later model version with the prongs directly off the back of the sensor? It seems like this is a better design for removal of the manifold. If I can use a later model, does it matter where the wires go onto the prongs?

Thanks,

-Josh

i think 30 psi is to high.put the old one back in .was it leaking? at idle you do need that much psi. i forgot but i think it somewere in the 20 . do a search i think i read that about a week ago.

No, no. 30psi is way low. The supply line pressure should be much higher. The pump should dead-head at 50-70 psi, and the pressure regulator drops the pressure on the rubber supply hose from the hardline to the rats nest to 28psi idle (call it 30) and 37psi running (call it 40). Either way, you're only supplying the idle pressure, and if it dead-heads at 30psi, you won't even get that at idle.

It actually depends on the regulator and how it is setup. If it is in place of the stock one, setting to 30 psi at idle is fine. The fuel pressure varies as the manifold pressure changes. The stock setup is 28 psi at idle, the 37psi is at WOT. The regulator doesn't do anything different between the 2 points. The manifold pressure just chages from idle vacuum to basically atmospheric pressure over this range. The pressure across the injectors is constant.

So if the stock regulator is in place, the aftermarket one is worthless (unless maybe placed on the return side) as whatever pressure is set, will be reduced by the stocker.

option 2: if the aftermarket one goes in the same place as the stocker, it should be fine. Something else may be the problem.

option 3: stock return blocked at the rail, the aftermarket reg has a return and you are using that. Still should be fine as long as there is a reference to manifold vacuum and the it is adjusted to get 30 psi while the car is at idle.

Let us know what regulator you have and details on how everything is connected. Also, if you let us know what you removed during the install of the regulator could help a lot. It might be as simple as you forgot to plug something back in.
