GSL-SE Radio Problems

When I first got the car the radio completely worked without any problems. Within 2 weeks I've been having problems. I can pickup AM just fine but I get nothing out of FM not even static.

Does anyone have wiring diagram for the radio itself not the standard diagram?

The cassette isn't working anymore either (just makes static)?

The problem seems to be in the radio, is there something I should look at?

Also the power antenna goes up but not down what should I look at?

I woulod start with the antenna. That is why the FM does not work but AM does. Get one of those "Rubber Ducky" antennas and ditch the power one. They are nothing but trouble.

I had a rubber ducky antenna on the car and last night I installed an aftermarket power antenna. The FM didn't work with either one. The AM signal got stronger when I installed the power antenna though. I also checked to see if the antenna wire became disconected at the back of the radio and it is fine.

I also messed with the cassette player a few minutes ago and found if I press the PRO button a few times it works untill I eject.

One possible issue is the cable from the head unit to the antenna, mine failed after putting a stereo system in... between the vibration and moving wires around broke the fine strand of green copper that used to be the antenna wire.

I will look into the antenna wire. I was looking in the FSM and I can test an ohmn meter.

I'm going to pull the radio this weekend and open it up and clean it out. I will take some pics of what the inside looks like. When I pull it I'll test all the wires.

I didn't take an pics of the inside of the radio. I couldn't get my radio to work but I found a good one in the junk yard. I swapped the face plates. In case anyone is wondering all three components of the radio have a tube fuse inside.

How difficult was it to get the old radio out, any hint on the steps to take and where to start. My radio died about a year ago and I have to replace it with this other one that i've found.

It is actually very easy.

First pull the shift **** than pull the shift boot and suround. Pull the heater blower and temp *****. The behind heater ***** are nuts and there are 2 screws that are on the bottom of the suround. Once you get the two nuts and 2 screws out, the suround just lifts out. Do not go to far because there is 3 light bulbs that need to be removed. After the suround is completely removed you car see the 4 screws that hold the radio in. Pull the screws and slide the radio out slowly. Once you get the radio most of the way out, you can see the plugs in the back. Unplug everything and the radio comes right out.

I've got a stock stereo out of my 85 GSL-SE if you have any issues with the one you salvaged.
