GSL-SE Question --- Found plug under shifter

Does anyone know what this plug and wire are for?
This is in a 85 GSL-SE.
Is this possible it was for a Automatic trans?
Thanks

yes it is for auto. If you connect the red and black wire with the bullet connectors, you will short your dash lights and dimmer switch.
LEAVE IT ALONE, it's mazda's idea of a joke!

Not sure about the white plug but see the bullit connector?? DON'T CONNECT THAT. If you do you will short out your dimmer switch so all the lights that the dimmer controls won't work. Took me forever to find that out with my 85 back in the day.

But yeah, my guess that would be there for the a/t or something

As every one has said, it will blow out your dimmer switch, I had a friend take apart my dimmer and just bridge the switch so my dash lights on full when I turn on my lights. in essence bypassing the whole switch. why they wired that mess that way with out a fuse is beyond me!. I was a stunned with how dark our panel's are at night. At least with the amber back lighting it isn't too bright to drive with them all the way up and the dimmer realy isn't that nessasary.
