Question GSL-SE owners - Please state your offset !

Hi guys,
I know this has been trawled over and over in the past but I have looked and havn't found a solid answer that makes me feel sure that I can go out and order a set of wheels that will fit my car and not have to buy spacers

Basicaly I would like to know

1. The offset of your wheels
2. The rim width & diameter
3. The tyre size
4. Any suspension modifications ? (e.g coilovers can
increase clearance on the front)
5. Wheel arch clearance ?
6. Strut clearance ?

I'm specifically looking at some 15x7's but any diameter/width + offset info is much appreciated

maybee then this thread can be archived and others can benafit

Thanks,
Mike

1. 40mm is stock. My Enkeis are 38mm with no fitment problems... and in anticipation of another question, bolt pattern is 114.3mm

2. I went with 16" rims for that low-profile look, which leaves enough rubber to protect the rim and provide some bump absorbtion. Anything over 16" is past the point of diminishing returns and will have negative effects on steering and handling overall.

3. My tyre size is 205/55 (R16, obviously)

4. none.

5. I had to ever-so-slightly pull out the front fender wheel arch lip to prevent rubbing on the squared shoulder of the low profile tyre. It's so subtle it doesn't change the lines of the car one bit but allows the tyre proper clearance. The rear arch was fine.

6. No probs whatsoever - 38mm is 2mm closer, but the tyre doesn't touch the strut or spring at all. When they were installed the tyre shop pointed out that it was only about 1/8" clearance - but clearance is clearance

Cheers Guys , +40mm ish seems to be the offset of choice for most people so I've put in an order for a set of these in 15x7 and 205/50R15 Yoko's

... I hope they fit !

The 215's dont rub on the springs in the front at all when driving and cornering hard? I mounted one of my friends 215/35/18's on the front but didn't drive it around. It felt really close to the spring.

I have 15x6 Panasport ProRallys with 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza RE730s on them and they are the same size and offset as the 1988 Mazda 626 Turbo wheels I once had on my SE. Today I rotated the tires and what was in the rear are up front and THEY RUBBED on the spring!..never did that before.. I dont know how since each wheel and tire are the same on all 4 .. Burnt a nice groove on the inner edge of both front tires needless to say I swapped them back to the way they were.. forget about rotating again!.. Im just gunna corner harder to equal the wear.

16x 7 40mm...

205/45-16 on all corners

GC coilovers & camber caster plates up front, but that didn't really make an apreciabel difference... They are VERY close on te inside of the wheel well when all teh way turned. If the car was up a little higher they wouldn't have a problem..

did you have to modify anything on the inside of the wheelwell to get the 5" of backspacing to fit? How much clearance do you have before you hit either the brakeline or the trailing arm? (err whatever that front suspension bar is... toe link?)

sorry, should have said 205/50, not 55.

50 gives a close-to-stock rolling diameter with reasonable rim protection, but costs a pretty penny as it's an unusual size

wheels

Here is a pic of mt panasports
225 50 15 and they do rub on hard bumps so I removed them and will put them back on when I put my new springs and shock on. I hope with the new shocks and springs it will raise the car a little so the wheels fit.

I know a few 1st gen people would had there 7 raise up after replacing the stock springs and shocks.

If not I will down size to 205 50 15.
Looks really good with the 225 50's.
I will try to post a pic ... if it takes it.

3. The tyre size 205/50HR15
4. Any suspension modifications ? (e.g coilovers can
increase clearance on the front) - none (RB springs on order!)
5. Wheel arch clearance ? Fist sized gap
