GSL-SE hp gains through FI system q's

just wondering how far you can take a stock gsl-se fuel injection system?

can you add bigger injectors?
can you put a turbo on it?
can you piggy back the computer?
can you get a chip for the computer?
can you run direct fire on it?

just wondering if im making the right choice going for a gsl-se instead of a gsl with full gsl-se suspension

You will notneed bigger injectors untill you increase the airflow capability.

You can put a turbo on anything.

You can piggy back any computer.

There are no commercialy available reprogramed ECU's.

You can run direct fire, and some have.

Remember the biggest restriction to any FI NA 13b is the AFM. Getting rid of it will boost your horsepower condsiderably, but will cost you. OTOH a mindtrain exhaust with cats will cost you as much as an aftermarket FI system.

stock 12a-100hp
stock 13b-135hp

you are starting out with 35% more power, so 200HP is possible in streetable trim.

I think they mean MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter

but it would stand for air flow meter

the 84-88 NA's have an afm with a flapper, not a MAF.

a t2 AFM will not bolt up, nor will a 86-88 AFM.

Nobody dissed a 12a, I just said the 13b had 35% more power to start with, and could reach 200+ streetable HP.

Damn Dave, You're halfway there.
ITzWeapon's Turbo GSL-SE

Contact him on the forum. He has a lot of insight on how to turbocharge a "Regular" GSL-SE. His was plenty powerful (over 300hp) - although I think his A/R was too big (don't tell him I said that )

To sum it up quickly, He pretty much just added a Turbo Manifold, an intercooler (starion/conquest) and used a Haltech F9 (Fuel only) computer (about $700). He added some secondary injectors, and without too much hassle, he was running nice. The Haltech F9 removes the need for an AFM. Don't try to use a Mazda ECU - that's crap. There are no Piggy-backs for the GSL-SE ECU either.

Good luck. The Sticky thread on top has lots more info on these as well.

While I agree with yayarx7 on what you can do to a 13B NA. his stock figures could be misleading. The 12A engine used on the North American RX-7 was a detuned version to meet fuel consumption and emission concerns. It early versions produced around 125hp in stock form. Even on the RX-7, righthand drive models had different porting and produced 110-115hp in stock form. The 13B was rated up to 160hp in stock NA form depending on the model.

In answer to the question how far can you take the 13B engine, around 300bhp in a street version, while 600bhp is easily obtainable on an unlimited budget for track purposes.

I am only refering to the US market first gen engines when I say 100 and 135 hp. The earlier 12a's are very scarce and the 160hp 13b's are from the 88 and up models.

Why are you bitching about being slow after "so many mods"? I dont see many go fast mods on there... Where's the engine porting? (not manifold ). Get a proper port, a bigger aftermarket carb (not a nikki or 45) and then, if you still think it's slow, you can start bragging about all your "mods" again.

You're going to shoot yourself in the foot by backtracking to a FI 13B. It'll be cheaper (considering the mods you already have) to run a big carb on either your 12A or a 13B.

V8kilr yeap man you need porting...ignore the comments about the nikki. A nikki can flow (properly tuned)...with all the mods you got...massaged nikki and streetporting you are up in the 190hp (to me that is quick)...

GET SOME PORTING DONE!!!

later on Naws....you'll be ok

Eating turbos pretty soon
