Gsl-se

Going to look at a GSL-SE that doesn't run. Do you check compression the same on those as the 2nd gens? If its not the engine, what do you think it could be? The guy said its been sitting for 3 years.

Yes checking compression would be the exact same. Other reasons for stopping the car could be things like transmission, rear end, TONS of reasons. make sure to check underneath the bins for rust, the rear wheel wells, and where the idler arm mounts in the engine bay (on the frame beside the exhaust).

Yeah... it can be anything... hell, if it has been sitting for that long it could be that the gas is too old and won't ignite...

Unless the car is real cheap prephare to spend alot of money to,,,,find why it was parked,, cap, plugs, rotor, wires, coils, oil, and remove and clean the whole fuel system.that includes buying a new fuel pump and fuel filter. mazdatrix wants $341.00 for a fuel pump
but others can be made to work for far less bucks. I know all this because i bought an 84 -SE for $ 150.00 dollors and it sat for 6 years. I've pumped at least $500.00 dollors so far in it and it still doesn't run perfect.

i bought my 84 gsl-se for 600 with a blown engine, i had to re hose and rewire the entire car. i mean everything down to the little trunk light. i bought a second gen engine for 350. and i've spent about another 1200 on it. it's starting to run great now. i have a MSD comign tomorrow. hopefuly this will help me get more than 12 miles to a gallon
