GSL Rear SB vs. BB

Does anyone have pics of the differences between small barring and big barring GSL rear ends?

What are the easiest things to measure and tell the difference?

I have a '83 GSL small barring and I'm on the search for a '84-'85 big barring. I wanted to make sure I'm getting the right one.

BTW if anyone knows of any for sale in Colorado I may be interested.

If you have an assembled 83 GSL rearend as you say measure the hub outside diameter which is part of the Banjo just behind the bracket that the caliper bolts to. This measure will be approx 2 7/8 inches diameter for a small diameter axle & when you measure a hub that is 3 1/4 inches diameter you will have a large diameter axle assembly. The axle bearings are pressed inside this hub.

If you would decide you have a need for a large axle 4:88 LS third member please e-mail ddewhurst1 at wi.rr.com

I just bought a '85 GSL rear end. It is a complete rear and is in great shape. The bolts even still had the original plating on them. The rear has very little surface rust. The barrings seem to be good and it even came with rotars. I had to pull it but it was worth it.

I payed............................................. ..drum roll.....................................

$40 for it.

haha. I got it out of a pull and save in Denver. I had to drive an hour to get it. I pulled the pasenger seat out of the rx-7 and put it in the car. That was tough getting that thing in my car without help.
