8 months isn't all that long, you should be able to fire it up, Assumining it was in good working order when parked. Search, i know there's plenty on this topic.

Yeah, I know I've posted enough about my 4-year sitting restoration that you should be able to find some good stuff, but here are the basics:
Find out what condition the car was in before it was parked. You're looking for any problems that would have to do with the fuel or ignition systems. The rest wouldn't have had time to sieze up and rust over like mine did, so you're just looking for things that might need work to get it started.
The basic thing that you should do first is pull the plugs and have a look at them. While the plugs are out, give the main pulley three full turns towards the driver's side or more. This'll get any crap sitting at the bottom of the combustion chamber out through the bottom spark plug holes, and also serves to check for carbon lock before you go blowing your starter on it (I speak from bad experience). Wipe the plugs off and if they're good, throw 'em back in, sprinkle a little gas down the carb (a few drops, to give it something to catch on), and start 'er up!
From there if you have problems check that the spark plugs are sparking, fuel is getting to the carb, fuel is getting from the carb to the engine, and then check that *too much* fuel isn't getting to the engine!
Good luck, do a search and have fun

yeah, we tried taking the air filter off to spray down in the carb, but the tucked in there between the carb and the ol cap. but it was in great shape before it sat, and we got it to turn over, even with the plugs out. but it still wont catch
