Grounding problem?

I have installed an S4 TII alternator into my 83, ran new 8ga wire from the alt to the fusible link, and from the battery to the fusible link, 4ga from the battery to the starter,4ga ground off the battery, and I have 8ga grounds to the engine off of the battery, I also have a 1 farad cap for the stereo....With nothing running(no stereo, heat, lights) I only get 13 volts, withe everything running I get around 11....WTF???

Your cables are only as good as your battery. With that setup, I'd go with an Optima Red or Yellow top battery to maintain peak performance with less internal resistance.

Really, for the effort you put into wiring, you should spend a bit on a good battery. Search eBay,

a few things...as i was in that boat also a long time ago. cean the hell out of the mounting spots for the grounds. they get rust dirt oil and such on them and they arent as good a ground as they could be. #2 add a few extra grounds. i just went to the auto parts store and got a few 3 ft ground cables... they are flat on both ends to you can bolt it down. i replaced the stock ground to the motor, then did 1 from each side of the car from the strut top to a good spot on the motor... i think i did 1 under the rats nest and 1 to the front or rear plate. just with the extra grounds i saw 1 volt improvment on the stock guage. then i put on a t2 alt and i was around 13.5 well then i got a dig. volt guage for my 3 a piller pod and it showed that the stock volt guage was reading low. and dont ovrlook the chance that you have a bad alt...even thought its new to you. if you drive to the dyno Sat. yayo ill check it with my multi meter

Yeah... like long duck said you prolly need to get a lil more powerful battery. But Bad had a good suggestion too. If your battery is a good battery try adding more grounds to get the juice flowing alil smoother.
