grinding sound?? whats that??

I have another question about my 1985 RX-7 rotery...
When I accelerate quickly and stomp on the gas, I hear a grinding sound... what does this sound like? is it the tranny? (its an automatic)

could be the gearbox. my 83's transmission was a whiney bitch.

can you pinpoint where the sound is coming from, and maybe describe it a bit more precisely?
