The jump in the rpms at around 5k rpm when the mech secondaries open.

Didn't redline it because I'm having some issues at the top rpm band. I'm trying to figure it out but it looks like it boils down to the fact that I need to upgrade ignition.

Or do you mean why the pause between speeds? that's because I'm steering and shifting with the same hand.

if you're having problems towards redline/topend... a failing fuel pump could be the problem

as of last month.. my red line's only @ 4k before the car bogs.. time for new fuel pump along w/ filter... LOL

I hear you. 4k rpm is where my engine starts to bog. Fuel pump is almost new, stock as far as pressure (2-3.5 psi) and 1700 cc per hour against 1400 cc stock. Still, with the monster fuel jets and the streetport, fuel pump might be insufficient. Just changed fuel filter on Saturday just in case. That wasn’t it. New dizzy cap and rotor. That wasn’t it. So I’m going to give a little oomph to the ignition with Blaster 2’s to see if that handles it. If that doesn’t handle it, then I guess it’ll be a bigger fuel pump and a FPR.

gotcha.. but are you running what fuel pump?? if carter fuel pump, then that could be the case since they don't have a really high flow rate compared to holley.. and since you are s/p, go figure!
