got the spacer on...
and now it's worse than before. ugh. i just want to get this thing working good before i go turbo. damnit. it's acting wierd. it will fire right up no problem, but wont stay on unless i keep blipping the throttle. if i just hold the pedal steady it sounds like it's getting no gas at all. doesnt sound like a vaccum leak to me. or maybe it is, but even with a vac leak i would be able to hold the rpms steady at a high rpm. this time no matter what rpm it tries to die unless i keep tapping the gas pedal. any ideas? it's a holley by the by.

Wild stab in the dark:
Blipping the gas pedal - makes the accelerator pump work right? .... so maybe it *isn't* getting sufficient fuel in the air.
Carl? Sterling? I know it's a Holley, but you guys would have a much, MUCH better idea than I. I'm just stretching my experimental carb legs and seeing if I'm actually slowly learning things.

Dude, just throw an EFI intake on there and be done with it! (j/k)
That one was for all those guys that blast EFI threads by saying you should put a carb on it.
Seriously, though, you've already proven that when you pump the accelerator pedal, you can keep it running - this indicates to me that the accelerator pump is working fine; your jets aren't working at all. This could be caused by jets of the wrong size, jets that are clogged, or dry fuel bowls. Have you checked needle valve and seat depth?
Having the correct fuel pressure is also a big determining factor in whether the carb will get enough juice to keep running. Immediate starvation is a sign that you don't have enough fuel in the carb. Check fuel pump, check fuel filter, check fuel lines and return line, and make sure it has gas in it! HTH,

oh yea, my gauge is reading constant 6psi all the time. i had it running ok a few minutes ago but then fuel started dripping out the secondaries and flooded it to a stall. so now i backed off on the float level just a tad and am letting it sit a minute. i never had this problem till the spacer went on. i thought spacers were supposed to HELP PULL FUEL!!!!! hahahaha, not make more room for it. hahh
