Got some major problems...

I know I am going to catch hell from people for the question I'm about to ask but maybe some the old school guys will remember me and still answer.

I finally got the car painted and almost the way I wanted it and someone decided to try and steal it (bastards). The only damage done is to the door handle and iginition switch.

I can fix the door handle, but I cannot figure out how to remove the ignition switch module from my parts car with out destroying it. The old one in my car was totally destroyed so I just cut it off. Upon removal I noticed it has a slot in the shaft with a raised section and a lock pin to lock the steering. I cannot afford a new kit and really need to figure out how to remove the old one without damaging it.

The assembly is aluminum with a metal clamp on the rear and is rivited on with some ungodly rivets (about 1/2" in diameter and wore down the tips on two drill bits).

thanks for the help

I beleive that you need to use a chisel to cut a slot in the bolt, then you can turn it with a screwdriver.

Remove the bolts that hold the column up to the dash. Get it to droop down as far as possible. The top piece of the clamp youll see the 2 bolts (one on each side) There are no bolt heads. They are special bolts (anti theft). The bolt was thin near the head. When they were installed at the factory, they tightened the bolts till the head snapped off. SO what you have to do is to make a slot in the bolts (dremel, hacksaw) and use a right angle or stubby screwdriver to get them out. Then the lock assembly will come right off.

A chisel works fine and is a lot quicker if you're careful.
