got to put in a new steering box.
Good luck on the install of the steering box.I have done the swap, and it is not fun.The best bit of advice I can give is to remove the battery, tray, drivers side headlight assm, and obviously the AC compressor if you have it.Also another thing I didn't do,but probably should have, was remove the pitman arm off of the steering box,but then again I didn't,and I got it out with some creative angling.I was lucky in that I didn't have the AC comp, and my battery had already been relocated to the storage bin.Good luck, and give me a shout if you need any online help. The worts part for me was I had to rmove 2 boxes, one from my car,and the good one from another car. After all that I think I would go with the Rack&Pinion system next time.
Yup, definately remove the AC pump (if you have one), battery & battery support. Also remove the steering column housing tube. It gives you the little extra room you need to angle the box/shaft assy. out through the engine compartment. You don't really need to remove the light assy., or the pitman arm unless you need it on the new box. Just spin the shaft to turn the pitman to the appropriate location so you can squeeze the assy. out. It also does make it a bit easier if you remove the hood. Note that you might get a little gear oil leaking out from the column housing when you separate it, so stuff some rags around the pedal/firewall area and cover your carpets. Gear oil sucks to get out of carpeting, plus it smells bad. If you like, you can do a search for more info.
uyp, just take the compressor off, batt. stuff, and your good to go, just get a fork thingah to get the pittman arm off of the long thing from side to side, and the the stuff centered. It's is not fun at all.
