Got a new project car

I just got an '83 RX7 from my uncle. It has 125k on it with 20k on a rebuilt engine and tranny (from someone who knew what they were doing). This car has seen a lot of sun and the interior shows it. Everything is stock, except for a bored out catalytic converter. I intend to drive this car as much as possible, and would like spend many weekends restoring it to it's original beauty AND kicking butt anywhere I drive it! So, where to start? It looks like interior parts are getting scarcer (current color was brown, some faded to almost white!). Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. Hope you have as much fun with your car as I, and most of us do. Your right, interior, actually everything for these cars is getting kinda rare, so if you find anything good you might wanna jump at the chance to get it. As far as interior is concerned finding replacements off a parts car in good shape would be the ideal solution, but since brown interiors are the rarest you might find that kinda hard. If you can find paint that matches the brown closely you could paint the panels, I did that with one of the panels in the back on my car and it looks ok. good luck with it.

Thanks for the input 82transam! This isn't my first RX7. Actually it isn't my second or third or come to think of it my fourth! But it is the first one I've had that was drivable in over 11 years! My first one was a maroon beauty with a tail. It wasn't some obscene tail, but one that wrapped around the side and maybe came up a total of 5 inches from the rear deck behind the hatch. It looked like it belonged there. It so transformed the look of the car at the time (mid '80s) that when I drove into a full service gas station out in the middle of nowhere Texas, the attendant said "Wow, I ain't never seen one of these Maseratis up close!" That was my first RX7, a '79. Well, I'm sure that poor sob hadn't seen a lot of things, but, it sure was funny at the time! I knew back then that RX7s were one car that had a soul. They can nickel and dime ya to death, but you sure don't notice it when you hear those secondaries kick on the freeway while passing a semi or come into a hairpin hot and swing that perfect rear-end around with a drop into second at 4,500 rpms. If anyone in this forum is in Oahu, find Tantalus (spelling?) Drive. It was made for the RX7!
