Good wet weather tires for 85GSL-SE?
Good wet weather tires for 85GSL-SE?
OK OK I searched, but tire models change all the time.
What have people found are good wet weather tires for the SE? The Dunlop SP2s on mine break loose with the least moisture on the pavement. Usually I get Pirellis, which have always been the best for me, but they don't make the right size. so I looked around and found a recommendation for Goodrich Traction TA H tires, but I tried those on another car and they aren't as good as Pirellis.
Sumitomo, bridgestone potenza RE950, have some good reviews.
All I care about is wet weather stickiness and (near) stock size.
Maybe I have to go to 195/65 R14s , which have about the same revs/mile as stock 205/60 R14. Pirelli has a couple models in that size.

Some will flame the suggestion of a narrower tire, but trust me on this one. I recently sold a GSL SE and it had Bridgestone Blizzaks on it (no I'm not saying run these in the rain!). Thing is, they were p185/70r14 and they handled awesome and steering was unbelievably easy. Then I put my p250/60r14 BFG Traction t/a's on it, and the steering was tougher, followed all the ruts and didn't handle as well either. I've since gone to some sr rated Daytons (price was right since I usually burn them off with the supercharger anyway), i went with 195/60's up front and 215/60's in the rear. The narrower tire steers sooooo much better, although i am not happy with the handling of the cheap brand tires. If "I" was driving a near stock GSL SE, i would go with Michelin Hydro-Edge tires in P185/70r14 and I believe they would work awesome. http://www.michelinman.ca/michelin/vehicleInfoSubmit.do I have spent 7 years in tire sales long ago, and size isn't everything, the makeup of the tire makes the most difference. It's hard to beat michelin!
But, like 84stock says, it is hard to beat Michelin, for a daily driver.

Most of the good dry tires I've read about are also good wet tires (but lousy snow tires). You also want plenty of tread and a narrow tire in the wet. A wide tire with no tread is best for dry roads, but isn't safe outside of the Indy 500.
So, in short, get a high-performance/sports tires and always change your tires before the tread gets low.

Discount tire direct is a good source for the Falkens. Fair pricing, shipping is free and fast. I called to order the Falken 512's, but they had one full set of the Kumho's, and sold them to me at the same price as the Falkens (about $7 per tire savings). I recieved excellent service when I called. No complaints from me.

my prefered wet/dry perfomance tire is the potenza S-03 pole positions, but i dont think they came in anything below 15's, plus they're discontinued

Siping tires is good for snow or ice conditions. Bliffle lives in SF, CA.

I don't know why they did away with the old Dunlop D60 A2 series. Even in extreme down pours going thru the Gorman area when I was still in Ca they would not lose grip.
The old Michelin XGT series was the same way.
don't use falkens I had them on a SE that wasn't even making the horsepower it should stock and I had to start in 2nd at even the first hint of rain... go with the yokohamas they are always good ****...
