Ok well I'm really really really bored, so my project now is making my fiberglass hood, or maybe CF, for the 79.

I would like to go ahead and put some type of hood scoop or vent into it while I'm at this begining stage. I'm not quite sure what type of thing to go with.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a turbo II hood scoop.


any opinons on this type of setup? Aerodynamics? Cooling? Styling?


Of course there is always this mariah type scoops, but I think I'm leaning more towards the raised scoop for the more agressive look.

the TII hood scoop is a popular mod, though aerodynamically it's a dud many people think it looks good.

I'm working on a vented hood m'self as it's more practical for cooling and arguably reduces front end lift, but not everyone likes the look of a vent - scoops seem more 'aggressive', especially to those raised on muscle cars who also prefer dual exhaust

oooooh!!!! hoodscoop! myself, i dont much care for the mariah OR the TII style scoops.

something more raised and pronounced would be better.

thing is, 1stRX makes stock shaped hoods - this guy is talking about hoods with scoops...

yeahh the new mustang is the way to go!
and they will give u best air flow to ur air filter IMO if u had some sort of open top filter ....

Have you SEEN the new Mustang scoops up close? They're just a bump on the hood with plastic trim filling in the front - My friend Loretta drives one and complains about the car wash wax sticking to the black plastic, showing off the fact that there's no opening.

if Sammymatik were to make the replica mustang scoop for his bonet. im sure would be all out of fiberglass with no plastic so having wax and pollish fudging up the plastic shouldn't be an issue for this one.

and no i havent SEEN the mustang up close, we dont get to many down here in australia...

The louver idea is a possiblity for sure, I thought they would be more functional for venting air into the engine bay.

I completely agree with Mantis about the TII style scoops. I think they do look fairly nice but I'd rather not reduce my drag coefficent any more than necessary.

Well I got a little bit more time to figure it out cause I went to the hardware store and they were out of Melamine board which I'm gonna need to do the vacum bagging. I also still have to bust out the clay and do some sculpting and prep up the hood to be copied. I would like to make the scoop, if I go with a scoop, small as to not make too much drag... just big enough to suck some air inside the hood.

Anyone have some good pictures of hood scoops that might look good on a first gen?

Why do you want to suck air into the underhood area? The radiator already lets plenty of air past. If anything, you want to use the negative pressure to evacuate air from under the hood, meaning less air going down under the car and lifting it, and less hot air trapped at the top of the engine bay.

yeah... the more I think about it the more I'm thiking I should just do a stock replacement... then maybe making vents after the fact. Would be a hell of a lot easier that way. Besides the master mold is gonna be a lot easier to make with out the scoop or vents or whatever.

I've only got enough glass at the moment to lay up the mold... Maybe later I can just pick up some epoxy resin and CF to make a CF hood. hmm.... I can always make another mold.

I do have a fair amount of fiberglass still... I gota do something with it. Could always try to do a set of fenders.

No kidding. I noticed that a while ago. i was talking on stangnet.com, and some tard made some comment about headlight conversions all being "rice".

--this coming from someone who drives an fox-body GT: a car with a MASSIVE cosmetic spoiler and 5 non funtional airscoops.

has anyone got a link to some online tutorial for working and making things with fiberglass.. ?

My first attempt with my dash didn’t turn out fantastic. There are a few cracks and it isn’t very smooth and I want to experiment more with it, maybe try and make a new head light cover with a vent?

I am working out the "vented" hood now. My first vacuum bagged hood should be done next week, I have a customer that is using it on a tube framed road racer.

That first hood looks pretty bad! Look at the lines around the headlight?? I do like that type of vent for racing though.

the headlights are in the raised position, thats why it looks like a bad fit
