going to look at a $950 RX7

Ok, I posted the following link a bit ago. Since then I called the owner and am going to look at it in an hour. He says the price is "flexable"?? What is wrong with this thing? Even better, if I get it for ~$800 do I care whats wrong with it? Any advice is always appreciated!

This post probably won't help you now, but I hoped you skimmed the FAQs at the top. Make sure it doesn't smoke a lot and all that.

and get some maroon seats to match at least.

make sure you examine for rust and for engine condition. if it takes awhile to idle on its own, and smokes a fair amount on start up, the engine is worn. i have driven on an engine like this for a year with no problems, just takes awhile to idle and will smoke on start up. your worst enemy is the tin worm. check the rear AND front wheel wells for rust. doesnt seem like a bad price. you may also want to check the suspension for rotten bushings and leaking shocks and struts as well as worn ball joints and tie rod ends.

Geez, I looked at a 85 GSL-SE over the weekend and it doesn't run...
I saw some parts I could use on mine and made him an offer...

He was asking $1,000!
He said he would go down to $950...

I said...Lotsa luck...

Good luck/skill with yours!

I kind of dig the gray seats/door panels with the red carpets.....

If it runs well and has minimal/no rust, YOU BETTER SNAG IT!

It's in pretty rough shape. It starts and runs ok...as was mentioned earlier it does idle rough. The engine was hot when I got there so I figure it had it running for quite some time. It did have a small pool of oil under it, but more importantly, the undercarriage was coated with it. I bet I could get it for $800, just not sure if it is even worth that.
Thanks for all the help!

The oil leak is likely from the beehive oil cooler.
While the car has a few disireable items, it also has mismatched interior.

Nice car, low mileage, and with plenty of records. It's worth whatever he can get for it.
Book value would probably be between $2500 and $4000 for most cars in this condition. Problem is, there's not that many of them with under 50K on the clock, which can add a premium to the value.

Thanks, that was my worry. I would love to offer him .....3K but I get the feeling this was his pride and joy. With an offer like that I'de probably get popped in the nose. Oh well, the search continues.

Yeah, a car like that is a rare find. They are best suited for people that will continue to take the time to care for it in manner in which it is presented as having had done. I would love to have a car in that condition, but would hate to leave it parked most of the time. I enjoy driving my 83 too much, to see one sit stored away a majority of the time. I have a fairly nice car, but it has 200K on it.

Wow. That silver one is what my rusty little '82 GSL wants to be when it grows up.

Gorgeous.

Must be nice to "have" one rusty or not! Mine is probably melted down into several other items by now (crashed it back in '89). I've got the rx fever back now though. I will be driving one again sooner or later!

Talked to the owner of this little silver beauty today. I got him to say he would consider 5K. Still to much money for me, but if it's worth it...I might have to find a way. I've had problems getting a good idea on RX7 values since the spectrum of vehicle available is so broad. No better source than to ask the experts here! What do you think??

Well it all depends on what you plan on doing to the car. If you plan on spending $5,000 for that one with low mileage I hope you Keep it stock.

If your looking for one to have fun and soop it up just try to find one with cool paint descent interior for 1,000-$2,500. But no more unless it has a ton of stuff already upgraded.

Good Luck
