glee! 18.6mpg!!!!

advancing the timing, installing a brand new monza muffler, dropping the idle down to 750rpm or so...

i now get well over 415kms per tank... and thats with a heavy foot. when i purchased the car 4 months ago i got something like 328kms per tanks (heavy foot).

so thats about 13mpg up to 18 mpg!!!

pity its still not quite efficient enough to pass aircare!

I get about 700km per tankful on a 12A with bolt-on modifications. I have the 65litre tank and on highways get 8.5l per 100 km while around town it drops to about 12l per100km. That is around 28mpg for a 12A with 124rwhp.

The offical fuel consumption figures for the 81 were 30mpg highway, 21mpg city.

Anything below 24mpg overall is just bigger profits for the Texan oil companies.

HTF do you guys get over 300 miles per tank? I have never gotten anything over 287 (needle as low as can be, been driving with the lights on for about 30 miles). Now my usual around the city driving gets me about 235-240 only. Something must not be right on my SE.

I get about 22-24mpg out of my car....running rich, with no exhaust system after the manifold (aside of a cheap Turbo muffler).

I'm eager to see the changes after a tune-up.

christ, my car must be doing something wrong...

mods as per sig... before, i'd struggle to get 100 miles per tank (but i had a dime sized hole in the topish part of my gas tank so i replaced it.

i'm now on the first tank of gas since i swapped them, but the pity is, the sender in this tank dosent read full when it's full, so i dont know when it's empty.

For city driving, I get around 400km per 50-55L or in the old system 250mil. Thats 12.5L/100km (factory claim here was 14L/100km city, 9L/100km freeway).

In imperial thats around 22-23mpg.
Worst ever was 17L/100km or 17mpg - bad fuel, bad tune and best ever was 11L/100km or 26mpg.

Series 3 12A with bolt-ons and around 130rwhp.

This is funny I don't have the mpg value, but I actually got better gas milage the faster I drive. I was on the highway one july afternoon and was running steady @ 130 km/h (80 mph) and that was the best gas milage I ever got in my stock 1985 GSL with a bad exhaust leek and the windows down. The moral of this story is with the rotory engin the faster you go the better it seems to get...

Once in a blue moon I'll get 20+ mpg. Generally about 16-18 and my car always has fresh plugs, wires, filters, etc. Maybe my timing is off but it starts right up.

I haven't done my mileage for a long time now so I can't remember exactly what I get.. It's around 7km/litre I think.

Dropping my idle from over 900rpm down to 750rpm and adjusting the idle mixture made a huge difference to my round-town consumption. I guess I spend a lot of time idling!

I can't wait to get new plugs and re-do the timing as I'm sure it will help.

What pisses me off is this:

The American way of doing gas milage makes a LOT of sense... Miles Per Gallon.. How many miles can you get to a single gallon of gasoline. For all the problems I have with imperial measurements, that one makes sense.

The Metric way seems just STUPID!..... Litres of Gasoline per 100km of driving... In one system, it's the gasoline that stays solid.. in the other, it's the distance that stays solid... But MPG seems more logical and easier to understand than L/100km.... Or at least it seems to me.

And to think, I grew up knowing nothing but metric

Its the same thing dude, one is just the reciprocal of the other. You can get from one to the other quite easily - just divide 1 by the number to go from mpg to gpm, or 100 divide by the figure for l/100km to km/L.

I agree km/L or mpg does seem to make more sense as an economy figure - cos the figure is in reference to the fuel itself (what you're trying to get economy out of). Then again, I wouldn't have a clue what a gallon "looks like" in a container, whereas the metric system makes perfect sense to me as 1000 cubic centimetres of water at sea level, which also happens to be one kilogram. Even more confusion is that there are British gallons, and US gallons...grrr

Oh well, we have our systems now and we're stuck with them.

i wouldn't say its odd seeing as the original window sticker claims an average of 20mpg.
