Getting tired of my carb
Getting tired of my carb
For months now I've been working on this Weber conversion. It has been a true pain in the backside from the start. It runs, but it has lacked the power of the Nikki I had before. At this point, I wish I'd kept it and just given it some maintenance instead of putting this thing in.
I got some new jets for it this week, hoping to resolve some of the power issues I've had. They only shipped one of the two main jets I asked for, so I have to work that out, but I got some F9 65 idle jets and 160 air correctors. The mains I ordered were 180. Anyway, I put the idle jets in, and retuned the carb a little to adjust for them. The transition to the main circuit sucks. My old air correctors were 155, so I haven't even bothered with them yet.
Before I even started jetting, I had problems. The idle has never been particularly steady, as you can hear the "pops" in the exhaust...not loud, but there. When I hit the gas and hold it at about 4000 rpm, it stutters bigtime. It's still drivable, but not desirable. I've adjusted the timing over and over (blind though, I still don't have a light), replaced the battery, the coils, the wires, the plugs. I've done every adjustment I can to the carb, but nothing has helped correct this.
At this point, I want to dig out another Nikki I picked up at a junkyard in bad shape and ship it off to be modded. And I'd be happy to sell my difficult Weber with the crappy straight manifold and be done with it for good.

PM him. That's his handle.
Have you checked for vacuum leaks? What kind of fuel pump are you using and is the pressure regulated down to like 2.5psi??

This is the problem part. I KNOW I need a new pump and reg, as I've just got the stock pump in there now. The problem right now is COST. I've seen the pump for as little as $70 including shipping, and I haven't looked alot at regs but they seem comparable in price to the pump. If that's where my problem is, then I'm prolly screwed for awhile.

I would definately check with a skilled weber tuner. If you do a search on this site under 'weber tuners' you will find a thread I started a year or so ago. You can see what jets and what not I was running in my old style 45 DCOE. In any event- contact bill shirvington.. He can help.
P.S.- my weber stumbled like hell at cruising. Same with a lot of folks. Just an FYI.
