Well, I get about 10. Still in the prcess of why. I think its my accel. pump. But I also took all my emissions off.

Is the drivers side of your carb wet?

I get about 16 with all the mods in my sig. I actually get better mileage in my modded 83 than I did in my stock 85. I got about 10-13 in my 85.

My 83GS has gotten 22mpg consistently for 20 yrs. The 86GSL I just boughht only gets 15-16, so I'm working on it.

Seems to me you guys are WAY low.

my '88n/a gets 24-26mpg usually highway mixed with town driving. My '84 12a bridgeport gets 14mpg highway or town driving. Doesn't matter. Too much overlap is too much overlap.

Due to the cold weather, my car is spending a lot more time idleing with the choke on, and my gas milage is showing it. With a 50/50 combination of city and highway, my milage is about 16-17 mpg.. in the summer, I was getting 20 mpg with a lot more city and backroad milage than highway. The best I ever got out of my current 7 was 28 mpg and that was on a trip that was almost entirely interstate..

Well, the reason I think my milage is so bad. Is becasue I let it warm up for about 10 mins, then only drive for like 10 mins at a time. So all the constant starting is kinda harsh on milage!

you guys getting 20 mpg+ must have some funky dual fuel/electric motors goin' in your cars, 'cause even the US government's fuel economy rating is 17mpg for an 85 RX-7... new everything... and that's not driving with a "heavy foot" so to speak...

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymod...zda_RX-7.shtml

that's a good reference page... if you're looking for a decent vehicle on gas, and not sure which gets better.. I found out my '86 S10 was getting about the right MPG at 17mpg... that's average for an S10...

My new toyota should get around 20-22mpg in town, so I'm definately looking forward to that...

My FD and FB got about the same mileage, 10-11. I think the reason on my FB one was my rubber fuel lines under the rear of the car were shot and I think I was losing some though there. They appeared wet at times.

During warm months when I don't warm my car up everytime I go to use it I get 20. Thats with mechanical secondaries too, so that doens't help. I just took a 95% highway trip last weekend, and even with the warmup period I got 26 mpg. you guys getting shitty mileage either keep it redlined everywhere or have some carb setting messed up or something.

I drive a GSL-SE (13B 6-port EFI) and I used to get 16-18 mpg during the summer. Since then, the weather has turned cold (winter), and now I get some lame 12-14 mpg. Since gas is almost $1.90 a gallon, I now drive the 626 to school. There are plenty of things you can do to try to improve your gas mileage. I believe a very common suggestion is to replace your fuel filter, as well as do a routine tune-up (plugs, wires, oil and oil filter). However, a dirty fuel filter is only one of many possible causes of poor mileage.

OR!

You just drive your car really hard (just cruisin at 6.5k, not a care in the world) and that's why you end up with shitty mileage.

Basically, if your car is in good tune and mechanically sound, you'll know it's your driving habits. Otherwise, you'll need to look under the car to find the cause.

I hope this was helpful.

Well, I get 250 miles out of a tank of gas (could be more, thats just when I fill it), so by my figuring, thats 16 MPG, almost 17 MPG with a 15 gallon fill up. I cruise at 3K RPMS most of the time, and Im pretty light on the gas for the most part except when taking off. I like to get up to speed quick (doesnt everyone?). I usually rev it out to like 5K in each gear until I reach my desired speed, and then crusie at 3K in whatever gear. My figuring for 3K is that its where it sits at 60 MPH on the highway in 5th, and thats when you get the best mileage. Plus its the quietest there too . I dunno, maybe there is something wrong with my car? Oh well, shes still fun, and still gets better mileage than my 85 GSL did stock, so Im happy .

Here's a pic (if i had a scanner I'd scan it) of my cars (83 S) original window sticker. This should clear everything up.

But isn't that an average of Highway and City driving on the original window sticker? 'cause that would makes sense, as the page I posted above shows City driving as 17mpg and highway driving as 22-23mpg.

The new 85GSL I got 3 months ago is getting better. I used MMO 8 oz. premix for several tanks, which helped, and then I added a bottle of Techron last week, and that seemed to improve mileage and the rough spot at 4k. When I got this car, though it only had 49k, all the fluids were filthy, so I assume it was neglected and gummed up.

I WAS getting about 8 mpg, but my carb was runnin way rich, and I tihnk the accel. pump is going out, too.
Off topic, but do you really need that special mazda carb tool to adjust the mix on a 84 GSL?

Yea its an average. Making my above claim of 20 mpg in nice weather true. I drive some backroads, some more open roads and get 20. Why does this topic come up so often thats what I wanna know.
