gauge question

For all those that have switched to a mechanical water temp gauge, How did you get it to fit? The original sensor is some odd diameter with 1.5 thread, and the adapters that came with the gauge are pipe threads.
WTF? Someone please shead some light on this for me.

peace

first i got electric as its easier to route. second, i bought a 18" pipe thread tap and bought the choke sensor off of you to drill and tap as an adapter. all the stock adapters are imperial thread.

Imperial thread is synonymous with SAE. The Society of Automotive Engineers adopted Imperial measure as their standard.

Most Euro and Asian cars, however, use metric.

as would anyone smart. actually every car manufacturer creates their vehicles in metric and even the american companies are starting to use metric threads as well.

actually damon i drilled today with a 21/64 bit and the top part, which i thought under the green or red plastic (depending on model year) there would be metal. nope just a then piece. so i'm goin to clear the mess out and jb weld it up, let it set up, then redrill and tap. if you can find a true adapter between the metric mystery thread and the 1/8-27 npt thread of the sensor, let me in on it.
