Charcoal canister is prolly plugged. They tend to do that after a while.
Find a small wire, and run it thru the smaller hose nipple on the canister. That's under the hood, on the right side strut tower (assuming you have an 81-85).

Is your Gas cap factory also?

I had a problem where I used a cap that fit the Seven but was too tight and it caused an over pressurization where gas shot out at me after I removed it... ((also had to tear it off with pliers...)) just curious about that.

It might be the plastic doodad under the car. There is a vent nipple ont he tank. It runs over to a chack ball thing. Depending on conditions. It will either communicate with a hose running over to a hole in the frame rail, or vent forward into the charcoal canistor in the engine bay. If this plastic thing is stuck or otherwise failed, the tank won't vent.

There are two plastic check ball things under there. One is for venting the tank. The other is on the fuel send line and activates in the event of a rollover.

yes, the ol' check and cut valve that Jeff is talking about. as he said, it cuts the fuel in the event of a roll over. did gas spill on you or was it hot air?
