FWIW Learn from my mistakes
I removed rats nest, rebuilt carb, installed ignitiors etc.on my 82 GLE this spring and encountered all kinds of problems, missing, never ran the same way twice, rough idlepart throttle roughness and after all the workI tried,I finally found I had left the neg.cable just stuck on battery when I had worked on car and it was sitting loose on post.Since tightening, car has not been bad at all so far.Car started fine but I noticed more problems with lights on and any electrical load would slow idle.I have learned these cars are very sensitive to current and grounds sodon't neglect when troubleshooting.Again FWIW

Thanks for sharing even the "dumb" mistakes
Shows us all sometimes its the stupidly-obvious. Note to all that your 20+ yr old battery cables, even hooked up right, can have a butt-load of corrosion inside where you can't see it, resulting in unfathomable, untraceable, inexplicable - you catch my drift - problems. All that magically go away with new cables!!

Good grounding can do amazing things for your car. When building my 84, I replaced the cables, and after adding an additional chassis to housing ground on each housing, I suddenly got much better spark and all the electronics "perked up". Starts also got easier and gauges were quicker to react. There is no down side to adding extra grounds, but having poor ones can lead to all manner of issues.
