Funny Sound!!

Hey Guys, I have an 85 with a 12A. It has 185000 miles on it. Lately I have been experiencing a wierd screeching sound, when I am just about to shift to my next gear also when I am downshifting. I think it's coming from the tranny, but I am not sure.My airpump is still hooked up, so I don't think its a belt. It's very progressive ,the longer I wait to shift the louder it gets. And no! I am not winding it out. It even happens sometimes at a little above 60mph even If i just lift off the throttle. Then i give it a little more pedal and it stops! Please any ideas? I miss full downshifts!! BTW hte sound occurs between 3300-3500 rpm on upshifts from first to second and second to third. As well as other times. I just coundn't get out of third in my neighborhood!

You didn't say what rpm this is happening at, but I would check belt tnsions first.

Don't bump, go check the belt tensions, then report result.
