Funny Sound :(

Damn....on the night Im going to the track....

I got in my car and everything was fine and it still runs fine, but then I hear this sound as if its a throaty fan coming from where it seems to be either the manifold, transmission where it connects to the engine, drive shaft. I could feel it in my clutch when I would shift into first and let it idle. I threw it into neutral and it started off lightly untill it got to a constant hum. I know that when I shift down to second sometimes it BUZZs, but I do not know if that means my clutch is going out.

I also got under my car the other day and saw that the drive shaft is getting really rusty...damn...the next time something goes out on my car, I will then start working on the TII swap.

Any advice on what it could be?

rusty driveshaft

If your driveshaft is rusty, or has a **** load of road crap on it, like tar or it has been undercoated, it needs to be sandblasted and rebalanced. Look in the yellow pages for a transmission shop or anywhere that repairs or sells driveshafts. Don't replace the damn thing, that is too $$ and it's not necessary. Have them put in new u joints too. They're only like 20 bucks and will improve the ride and cut down on vibration. Whatever you do, don't try to put in the u joints yourself, because you'll only end up ****** it up and costin more in the end.

And anyone like Onlyonthurs shouldn't be giving advice and advising costly replacements when they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Sure its not the throwout bearing? When standing still, and the engine is idling, does it make the sound? Does it sound different when you push the clutch in? Or is this something that only happens when driving the car?

kentetsu, right on! Its when I idle, and when I have the clutch in after I stop I can feel it in my shifter. I feel it on 2nd gear at a higher rpm but after third its ok. Its not the rattle the whole car like I have felt before on my blown driveshaft.

And give onlyonthur some break, gotta give tha latino some love, orale homez

yea, when the clutch is in, there is no problem. I think that it is the driveshaft. When I have time I might take it off and inspect it. But i still have no idea bout the second gear. Its hard as hell to shift into second.(especialy when I was racing)

Well, I think your second gear problem is completely unrelated. That's your synchros going out (time to start double clutching )

Onlyonthursday is right. It's the driveshaft U-Joints. Or the other things listed, but he could very well be right. Daviddh85, you need to calm the **** down off whatever weird drugs you're taking. Just because Onlyonthursday is a goon (GOON?!) in the lounge doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about in the tech section.
Hell, look at Sterling, for example!

yea. I replaced this once before when I first got her started. I found a used one for 80 bucks at the local junk yard place. But *sigh* I must figure out what I am going to do with this car.
